چکیده

Manufacturing of aero-engine components has been improvised over the years, commensurate with technological developments in the aeronautics sector. Compressor blade plays a vital role in an aircraft engine and flaws in its production can have adverse impacts on the performance of an aero engine. Despite technological advancements, many defects arise in these single crystal blades, which are manufactured by investment casting. This paper presents the developments in the manufacture of compressor blades and quality control inspection checks on them, by performing Non Destructive Tests (NDT). Metallurgical observations furnish better explanations on the developments in blade manufacture from conventional casting to additive manufacturing Keywords— Defect analysis, Super alloy, Dye penetration, Metallurgical inspection, Quality control, Additive manufacturing

Effect of aging and manufacturing tolerances on multi-stage transonic axial compressor performance

The Axial compressor is an integrated part of a gas turbine. The central part of compressors is its blades. Blade aerodynamic has a significant effect on compressor performance. Because of the adverse pressure gradient in the compressor, any deviation in the blade profile has a significant influence on the flow field as well as the compressor performance. During the manufacturing and operation ...

Effect of blade profile on the performance characteristics of axial compressor in design condition

The choice of geometrical shape of the blades has a considerable effect on aerodynamic performance and flow characteristics in axial compressors. In this paper, the effects of the blades shape on the aerodynamic design characteristics are investigated based on Streamline Curvature Method (SCM). Initially, the Streamline Curvature Method (SCM) is used for designing a two-stage axial compressor. ...

Optimal Design and Tolerancing of Compressor Blades Subject to Manufacturing Variability

This paper presents a computational approach for optimal robust design and tolerancing of turbomachinery compressor blades that are subject to geometric variability. This approach simultaneously determines the optimal blade geometry and manufacturing tolerances to minimize the overall cost of producing and operating the resulting compressor blades. A pathwise sensitivity method is used to compu...

Parametric study on axial compressor performance in design condition

In This paper, a parametric study of compressor performances was performed by streamline curvature method (SLC). Effects of three input parameters in design process, e.g., number of blades, distribution of blade thickness, and blade sweep angels, on the main objective parameters in aerodynamic design, e.g., velocity distribution, efficiency and pressure ratio, has been investigated in the param...

Effects of Impeller Gap on Rotor Vibration in a High Speed Centrifugal Compressor: A Numerical and Experimental Analysis (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Centrifugal compressors produce high pressure ratio and rotate at speeds. So, a tiny unbalance can produce severe vibration. In this paper, effects of impeller gap on rotor vibration in a high speed centrifugal compressor is investigated. For this purpose, a numerical and experimental analysis are carried out. The moving reference frame method in FLUENT software is used for modeling of geometri...
